So, I started making kombucha again. You may have heard of it. It’s a fizzy, fermented drink created with tea. What makes it super healthy is something called a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast (or SCOBY) floating around in it, providing all kinds of bodily wonderment for those brave enough to take a taste. It can be quite mysterious looking – kind of like a mushroom – definitely not pretty, but just knowing it’s packed with things my body needs makes me overcome any hesitation and pour a glass daily. It reminds me of the Old Testament. Many times I’ve glanced at those pages wondering what in the world I was looking at. I’ve read snippets that scared me, confused me, and made me wonder how in the world to find the God of love among all those battles and sacrifices. But the more I learned, the more I saw a great love story unfolding throughout all of history. It’s like brewing kombucha. The way it all happens may not be pretty; it takes a long time; I don’t have answers to every question about it, but I know what it does for my spirit. It introduces me to the God Who comes closer and closer to us until He walks in our shoes. He takes on our darkness and brings us a light that no one can take away. If you ever struggle to read the Old Testament like I have, I would love to introduce you to The Bible Recap (https://www.thebiblerecap.com). It’s a great way to read through the bible in a year, and after each day’s reading, there is the BEST little bit of explanation by the host, Tara Leigh Cobble. She has helped me to see everything through the lens of God’s love as she provides context and explains how each part of scripture is related to the others. And just like kombucha, if you take in a little daily, you will notice a healthy difference within.
