I am a terrible baker. (See above for my latest batch of cookies I had to scrape off the pan.) I also get lost easily, I don't understand fashion, I can't remember where my car is parked, I've never been a well-put-together mother, and I can't speak small talk. The world may call these things "shortcomings," and I may have believed that most of my life -- comparing myself, wondering what's wrong with me. But now, I just understand that those are not my gifts. How about you? Are there things you wish you were better at? Are there people on social media that you're always comparing yourself to? How often do you focus on those not-good-enough things about yourself? Here's a challenge: Next time you put yourself down for something, think of another thing that you feel good about. For instance, I'm a terrible baker...but I make great scrapbooks! I've never been a well-put-together mother... but my kids say I'm fun! I can't make small talk...but I can get people to go deep and talk about the things that really matter to them. There will always be things we wish we were better at, but the more we focus on the good stuff, the less those other things will matter. Heck, you may want to take a few minutes and make a whole list of things you are proud of! Go back, read it often, and add to it. And If you have a hard time seeing those good things, be bold and ask a few of your loved ones what their favorite things about you are. Ask God to help you see yourself through His eyes. Just like an adoring parent, He sees both the struggles and the victories, and loves you just as you are.
