A rare text from my teenage son that gave me this little revelation: As a parent, I’m completely delighted when one of my kids notices the everyday things I do for them and says thank you. If this is true for me as a mother, then surely it’s true for God as our Father. Yes, we may remember to thank Him for the epic things – the biggest blessings, the finally-answered prayers – but what about those things that happen in a day that we hardly notice? Waking up with breath in our lungs, a cozy cup of coffee, a genuine smile from a fellow human, the nature that surrounds us daily. His goodness is everywhere. One way we can experience Him more is to say “thanks” throughout the day. At first, we may not be used to it, but as we practice over time, it becomes a natural thing to turn our hearts toward him all day long. Sometimes I just smile with a sense of gratitude in my heart. No words – just simply being present and thankful. I believe He delights in hearing from His kids, in whatever way we remember Him.
