There’s a boy at Jax’s school who’s downright mean to the other kids. When Jax comes home with yet another daily story about what he’s done, I admit, I feel defensive and I hope the kid is reaping the consequences at home. (And yes, we always encourage Jax to stand up for himself if he’s being attacked in any way.) However, this has been a great opportunity to talk about loving others, even when we don’t like what they’re doing. We all know that delicious feeling that can come when our enemy gets what is coming to him, but what about the freedom of turning the whole thing over to God? Admitting that yes, everything about this person makes our skin crawl (some may think of a particular presidential candidate we can’t stand) but our grace-filled God created that very person in His image. We don’t always understand why they are how they are, but there is something we can do. Every night we lift up this little boy in prayer together.  I remind Jax that God is in the beautiful business of changing hearts (just look at Paul in New Testament!) and it may not happen overnight, but it can happen. I challenge you to lift up anyone that you have a hard time loving. Not only can it help bring transformation into their life, but it can help bring more light into yours.
