We humans love our destinations. We're always waiting to arrive. How often do you hear yourself say, "I can't wait until..." or "as soon as..." or "it's going to be..." We're in our heads dreaming of some future ideal, while our bodies are here in this moment now. We're so used to thinking ahead (and there's nothing wrong with anticipating the goodness to come!) but too often, we launch ourselves right out of the place we are -- out of our bodies and into our minds. We wonder why we feel a sense of disconnection; or why time seems to move so fast; or how we get so out of touch with our feelings. It may have a lot to do with all that future thinking. ("I'll finally be happy when I lose 10 pounds...I'll finally relax when we get to the beach...I'll finally feel content when I get that raise.") What about all that's available right here, right now? There's joy and peace and contentment waiting right where we are. Coming back to the moment takes practice. I do believe God is always calling us home to ourselves. That's, of course, the only place where we can meet Him. My husband once had a mentor that would say, "Be where your feet are." That's how Jesus lived. He was fully present with every person He reached out to, in every place He went. The more I learn to live in the moment, the less frazzled my mind is. I think it's because we were designed to live that way. Imagine Adam and Eve being surrounded by paradise, and yet, being deceived into trying to look beyond it -- thinking there was something more they needed in order to be satisfied. And we're still being tricked today. But it doesn't have to be that way! Here's a simple prayer to bring you back anytime: Lord, bring me home to this moment, right here, right now. I am blessed. I am Yours. Amen.
