I've learned the most in life from the people with the least.

The least fame.
The least pride.
The least material possessions.
The least prestigious jobs.
The least impressive accomplishments.
The least need to be noticed and applauded.

This is why I'm drawn to the monks and the mystics. They have little to lose by the world's standards, and they savor the small things. They live a simple life, inhabiting the moment, not worried about what everyone is doing everywhere else. They are present with themselves, with others, and with God. Whether washing a load of laundry or plowing a field, they find great purpose in their daily work. They see their Creator everywhere. They recognize their own brokenness and they know their Healer as a Friend. They realize this world is not their Home. I want to be more like these wholehearted lovers of Jesus.
